Subject: ANOTHER EXPENCE FOR DRIVERS

WELL HERE'S ANOTHER EXPENCE FOR THE DRIVER'S (RADIOS)TO PUT ON THE SHOW. I KNOW ITS A HOBBY NOT A JOB. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER 25 YEAR'S. THE RADIO'S AREN'T GOING TO STOP CAUTIONS. YOU WANT TO SPEED UP YOUR SHOWS. WE'LL 90% OF THE TIME WE ARE WAITING ON WRECKERS AND THE SCOREKEEPERS. YOU ALL HAVE CORNERMEN, A CONEMAN, 2 FLAGMEN, AND A PROMOTOR ALL ON THE TRACK TO LINE UP CAR'S. IF A CAR WON'T LINE UP THAN BLACKFLAG THEM.
WE SPEND ALOT TIME AND FUEL PACKING YOUR TRACKS BECAUSE THEY GET OVER WATERED ALOT. SO YOUR SHOW START LATE. WHERE'S THE REGISTRATION MONEY, PARKING STALL MONEY. ARE THE PURSE'S GOING UP? MOST OF THE CARS THAT RACE AT THESE TRACK'S ONLY RUN ONE NIGHT AWEEK. CAR'S ARE LOSING SPONSOR RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY. I LOOK FOR LESS TRAVELING TO GO RACING FOR EVERYONE. I AM NOT AGAINST USING THEM, IT'S PAYING FOR THEM. IT'S AN EXPENCE NOT NEEDED!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE DRIVER'S IN 2009 SEASON!

I have to agree with Tony! This is not the right time to make drivers have more expense. Drivers should be good enough to look ahead of them and see the caution. Maybe the tracks should invest in better caution lighting around the facility to make drivers more aware, and train officials on getting cars in line.

If you want to know how to speed up the line up process for restarts... go watch the icebreaker challenge at Eagle. Haden has it figured out there. After a caution they stop the field on the front strech and point them into position. Drivers better not be sleeping, cause they are going green in 3-4!

Just my opinion, but I don't think a 100 dollar radio is the answer. We didn't run full time at Dawson last year, but planned to this year. After these recent events, I don't think we will, since this would be the only track we would use the radiio at. Just not worth it to us. Good luck everyone

I love internet arguments!

To me....if this radio helps me or any other driver avoid a single wreck, it pays for itself at that point. If it saves me a tire, a rim, an upper a-arm, and a couple ball joints....not to mention the time invested in fixing the thing....I'm all for it.

It's obvious that the radio will not benefit every driver, every night, but the possibility is still present. This is just the first thing that came to my mind when this idea was brought up a few weeks back.

More and more of the Mod series and special events are going to the raceceiver. BST is looking at this for their series and once you have been around them you see what they are good for.
A track doesn't just use these to line cars up, they can use these units as a verbal tool to let racers know where a spin or accident occurs and they can advise drivers where to drive to get around the mess without running into it. I have found out that 75% of drivers never watch flagman, lights or corner people.
We have been lucky in this area that corner people have never been hurt! With the speeds some racers carry thru corners things can happen faster than some of them could move. I would hate to see anyone hurt at my track.
I also like the fact that with these units the track can give forwarning to drivers that are about to be lapped. We can advise them that faster traffic is right behind them and tell them to hold their line. Layover flag can still be waved as a good warning but everyone will hear the warning and know that slower traffic is ahead and the slower traffic will hear the warning and know that faster traffic is overtaking.
Cost is just a little more than 1 tire. What can it save?

There will always be those against this and those for this, but as promoters we are trying to do things that will help you and us. My cost is more as I have to buy 2 Base units for my track. One for the person who will watch the track and one for scorekeeper to realine cars. Bear with us as this happens. Safety really has no price.

Last year I had a corner flag man just about get hit twice. The time has come to be evolved in the 21st century and use technology available. There are alot of tracks across the nation that have mandated using them. They are just getting into our area. I have talked to alot of people that have used them, drivers and track personnel. After they got use to them they really loved them. Like Chuck said a persons safety has no price or cost. Think about the flagmen that got ran over at Eagle a couple of years ago. Just think of the all the things and costs that family went through. It could be a driver just as easy as track personnel to get hurt. As a promoter I don't sit around and think of ways to create extra expenses for drivers. I try to think about improving the quality of racing and safety at an economical price for a racing program. There are alot of things on my wish list to do for the racing program at DCR, but I know we can't afford them. It will cost us around $350 to purchase additional radios to make this work. We feel it can be very benefical for our racing programs. If we didn't have wrecks or mechanical issues we wouldn't need wreckers. If we had an ashpalt track we wouldn't need to pack the track. We would only need scorers to determine the finishing order if everyone ran a perfect race. We don't live in a fantasy world, everyone makes mistakes including track personnel. I did raise the purse at DCR last year. Racing is a hobby and not a necessatity for life here. We all have to make choices. It is very tough to keep our tracks operating in the black. We put alot of time into putting on a racing program. Those of you who have been involved in running a track know what that experience is about. Our tracks could join the growing list of tracks closing, and there wouldn't be any place to race in our area. Yes the economy is tough, WE all have to work together and make the best of it. Unfortunately we all have expenses, thank God we do have sponsors to help put on racing programs. If you can advoid an accident one time and not tear up something it has paid for itself. When we had our promoters meeting in McCook back in January, each track discussed what they charged for admission and pit passes. Our tracks were the only ones that still charge $20 for regular nights. We decided to keep it the same price to help offset the cost of radios. If you have 2 or 3 pit personnel that adds up to $15-$20 extra for each car a night. Just the driver will offset the cost for 20 nights. If these microscanners are taken care of they can last for several years. Even if something happens to them in 5 years, $20 a year is pretty cheap to potentially save extra damage to your car or most importantly everyones safety. We all put alot of time and money into racing because its something we love to be a part of, it is a choice we make. Give them a chance. I will have to purchase one for the 8-10 times that I go racing this summer. As a driver I will be happy to have one if it can save me or someone else from getting hurt and/or tearing up cars.
