GOTRA Series - Vintage #31
|
Awards & Accomplishments | 1997 - GOTRA Sportsman of the Year Award, numerous trophies at car shows. 2002 - First Trophy Dash win in September at Butler County Speedway in Rising City, NE. 2003 - A Feature win at Fiesta Speedway in Montevideo, MN. My wife Cheryl and I did an interview with Wayne Dake for Speed Secrets that was later televised. 2005 - 2 A Feature wins at U.S. 30 Speedway. 2007 - Trophy Dash win at U.S. 30 Speedway. 2011 - Trophy Dash win at Raceway Park in Jefferson, SD. | Career Summary | My parents took me to the races at Sunset Speedway in 1959. That's probably where it all started. I watched my brother race Coupes in the 1960's. I spent about every Sunday night at Sunset Speedway in my late teen years. I helped out as part of a pit crew in the mid 1970's. I've always had a love for the old iron and the Vintage cars. In 1994 my brother, my son and I raced with a group out of Sioux City, IA. In 1996 I helped organize the Good Ol' Time Racing Association (GOTRA). This allows me to not only be involved with the old cars, but meet lots of people that have lots of stories... and race too! | Racing Goals | Keep the shiny side up. Have fun. Keep this piece of history alive. Encourage those people that want to get into a safe, low budget form of racing, and get to see their reactions when they do. | Other Interesting Team Information | Our group is made up of drivers from 16 to 60 plus, coming from a variety of states and vocations. I say the Racer's Prayer at the beginning of each night. A closing prayer is always done at the end of our pit meeting by one of our members. I cook a mean hot dog for everyone that wants one at the end of most race nights! |
