When I was around five, he and Mel Sorenson raced a car at Playland Speedway in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and ever since I saw my first race, I wanted to drive. In 1975 I raced three-wheelers at Riverside in Carter Lake, Iowa. Then in 1984 I built a Bronco, a 1974 Elite, which changed bodies four times. The last was a 1979 T-bird, which I raced at Sunset Speedway, Eagle Raceway, and Nebraska International Raceway Park. In 1989 I stopped racing to concentrate on my family. My daugters Jessica and Ashley are now all grown. My son James and I ran in the 360 SportMod class for two years in 2005-2006 and then two years in 2007-2008 in the IMCA-sanctioned Northern SportMod class. We ran at the IMCA Supernationals for the first time in 2008. We are racing in Memory of Misty Bronson (1981-2003). | Racing Goals | Run as well as I can and have a lot of fun, more consistent driving, learning to change the car to the track more. | Other Interesting Team Information | The first time I was ever on the track in 1984 in my heat race, someone hit me in the rear and my rear bumper fell off. I spun out, stopped, picked up the bumper, and went to the pits even though the car ran fine. Obviously my family makes fun of me to this day. In later years my bumper problem got fixed so well that Sugar Bear (one super nice guy who I got along with very well) hit me head on in the corner after I spun out, and I backed away and went on while the Caddy sat there steaming, quarter inch plate front nose and all. He came over later and asked me where I got the tank. He said he never hit another car that was so solid. Well, boxed in three inch angle iron, 3/8 inch thick, and 12 inches down the frame rail helped. But a little overkill, you think? |
