I started building my own the next week. We ran for nine years in the Hobby Stock (Street Stock) class, and then moved up to Late Models in 1997. We do everything on our car ourselves except for some machine work on the motor. From making the body, to setup, to putting the motor together, it is completely done by us. We also build our own trailers. We have currently built three open trailers and two enclosed trailers. It has always been that way. We nearly won a Track Championship at Cedar County Raceway in 1996, but got beat by my best friend, Nick Opfer, by 8 points. We have won 3 Points Championships now since 2000 - 2000 at Mid-Nebraska Speedway, 2004 at Boone County Raceway, and 2005 at Mid-Nebraska Speedway, driving a 1990 Rayburn chassis in 2000 and a 1998 Rayburn chassis in 2004 & 2005. 2010 was our 23nd year in racing and the beginning of our 16-year-old son Casey's racing career. In 2012 will be racing at different tracks and the SLMR Series on a limited basis. | Racing Goals | One goal was to win a Championship (we have accomplished this goal with 3 Point Championships in the last five years and have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that you don't have to have the most expensive equipment or the best of everything to be competitive). To meet new people and make new friends. To try and remember all the kids' and fans' names if possible. To do my best every time I'm on the track and have fun doing it. To help any fellow racer that wants the help and is willing to take advice and listen to it. One other goal, if possible, is to NEVER roll a racecar again and have to put a 12-year-old backup car back together in five days! | Other Interesting Team Information | Listen to Metallica or Creed on the way to the track. Say a prayer every night we race that everyone finishes safely. Say something to Curt before every A Feature. The reason I chose the #77 is because Lyle Alzado was #77 as a Raider and a Bronco. He was my football hero. Our motto is "Finish in One Piece." |
